Petone Signal Box

This page documents the interlocking controlled by the Petone signal box in 1975. The controlled area extended from south of Petone (near the old Petone Junction) to Hutt Valley Junction and the Melling Branch.

The diagram is based on S & I No. 1467 (July 1975).

The current (2002) Petone signal box was commissioned on 6 April 1952 at 10 p.m with the issue of Train Advice 638 and S & I No. 665. I believe that the Melling Branch came under the control of the Petone signal box in July 1958 when the Branch was singled and S & I No. 824 (July 1958) was issued. No. 824 cancels No. 669 Petone and the latter does not mention any Melling Branch signals. No. 824 also cancelled No. 690 (Lower Hutt) but I have not yet seen a copy.
