Study the running of specific trains in detail, with the emphasis on signalling and safeworking.

My aim in creating these pages has been to describe the operation of the trains, rather than simply to provide photographs of them.

57 Shunt signal and traps

Ground light 57 authorises the bankers to couple up to the Daffodil Express, which is waiting in the Loop at Upper Hutt on a wet Sunday ( 8th September 2002).

Red Unit To Wellington. Photos taken from the front of a Red (English Electric) EMU travelling from Taita to Wellington.

Wrong Line

Wrong Line Running. A Block of Line was in force on 25th May 2003 to allow the removal of Fletcher Siding at Ava. Train 1613, the 8 am Masterton - Wellington passenger, ran wrong line between Woburn and Wellington.

Daffodil Express

Bankers. The steam hauled Daffodil Express runs from Wellington to Carterton and return every year for Carterton's Daffodil Day. The train is banked by diesel locomotives beween Upper Hutt and Featherston.

634 and EF30013. 634 stops at Woburn to pick up EF30013 and take it to Palmerston North via the Wairarapa.

De 508. Sightings of De508 during a cab ride to Palmerston North.

South Junction

South Junction In March 2002 a low-speed light was installed on the Up Departure signal at South Junction. This allowed Up EMUs to reverse on the single line during a Block Of Line.

Study signal classes, Mis 59 forms, low-speed lights and the normal South Junction signalling.

MTT65. In November 2005 Mechanical Test Train 65 conveyed large headlight English Electric car D2411 and MAXX blue 4945 from Hutt Shops to Wellington.
