41 Safety Points Woburn

This page records the safety points at the southern end of Woburn as they exist in November 2001.

Right It is just after 10 16am on a Sunday in May 2001. A Masterton-Wellington passenger train passes Woburn on the down main. 41 safety points are behind the locomotive.

In the photo, from left, the tracks are Siding, Gracefield Branch/Loop, Down Main & Up Main.

41 points, when normal, lead from the siding to the stub of the backshunt, so protecting the loop and Gracefield Line from runaway vehicles in the siding. From 1953 until 1988 an arrow indicator was beside 69C signal.

The hand points in the foreground are fitted with an electrical detector. A detector is not visible at the corresponding hand points at the north end.

41/39 double slip at the south end of Woburn protects the Down Main from runaway vehicles on the Loop. However, I do not know if they are classed as safety points.

69A and 69C signals are blacked out.
