The safety siding protecting the main line from runaway vehicles in the suburban siding. From the left - Loop; Main; Suburban siding; Safety siding.

Next to the points is an electrical detector. The points are operated by a rod from the mainline points motor. The rod runs parallel to the siding and then turns ninety degrees to the left and passes under the track behind the stop block to the points motor.

The signal on the left is 53 Down Starting From Main and the ground light is 54 Shunt and Down Starting From Suburban Platform.

Stopblock and sleeper at the end of the safety siding.

The rod from the mainline points motor runs under the rails behind the stop block. A 90 degree crank changes the direction of the rod which then runs (from right to left) towards the safety points.

Note the vertical offset in the rod to allow it to pass under the rails.

A 90 degree crank changes the direction of the safety points operating rod.
