Platform 9 Locomotive Release Crossover

A switchlock controlled crossover between platforms 9 and 8 at Wellington Station allows locomotives to be released from their trains. When Wellington Station opened in the 1930s platforms 2 to 9 had crossovers (platform 1 did not come into use until the 1960s). Today just the crossover between platforms 9 and 8 remains.

The crossover is used to release the locomotive on Wairarapa off-peak weekday trains and on all Wairarapa weekend trains.
